This Year’s Mr. South:
- This year’s Mr. South is on Friday April 27, 2011 at 7 pm.
- The dress rehearsal is on Thursday April 26, 2011.
- Mr. South will take place in High School South’s new theater.
- The cost of Mr. South is $10 per person, and money raised from the event will be donated to the March of Dimes Foundation.
What is Mr. South?:
- The Mr. South Competition is a contest of modeling, talent, and personality, and is a chaperoned event. There is a selection process to select which interested senior boys will be the contestants. Before the Mr. South Competition, the selected contestants raise money during the week of Mr. South. This counts as part of their score. For the competition, each contestant will compete in the formal wear fashion show and talent show and will be asked questions. The judges will score each contestant’s performance. The contestant with the highest score will be named Mr. South, and two runners up will also be named. Any girl who wishes to win a free date with any of the contestants may purchase raffle tickets throughout the night. She should then place each ticket in the box for the contestant she wishes to win the date with. However, raffle tickets will only be chosen from boxes of Mr. South and the two runners up. Each girl may place a raffle ticket in any or all of the contestants’ boxes, but she may win only one date. Money raised from the event benefits the March of Dimes.
About the March of Dimes Foundation:
- Did you know that prematurity is the leading killer of newborns in the United States? Those who survive often have lifelong health problems, including cerebral palsy, mental retardation, chronic lung disease, blindness and hearing loss. Unfortunately, prematurity rates have increased in the past two decades. The March of Dimes is dedicated to finding the cause for prematurity. The organization was founded in 1938 by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to defeat polio. Within 17 years and through the help of the March of Dimes Foundation, the Salk vaccine was developed and polio was defeated.
